Tips On Various Ways To Reduce Bruising

Bruising can occur when the blood vessels are damaged and broken from various types of injuries. Blood from the inside of these vessels then begins to leak out and reaches the tissues under the skin. Because of this, discoloration from the blood being in the tissue begins to show in the skin as the body reacts to injury. After bruising has occurred, if it turns green, brown, or yellow, then it is beginning to heal. This is caused by the trapped blood breaking away. If you are interested in ways to reduce bruising, then consider some of the following options.

Consider the type of medications that you may be taking. Antidepressants, steroids, anticoagulants, and sometimes even aspirin can cause bruising. Sometimes bruising is listed as a side effect from these medications, so read carefully. If medications are the cause of your bruising, you should not stop them to try to reduce bruising, but instead, consider talking with your doctor to find out if there are other alternatives or ways to prevent it from happening as often.

Grape seed extract is a option for people interested in preventing bruises. Supposedly, it is supposed to strengthen the capillaries and this would help prevent the blood vessels from breaking as easily. However, grape seed extract is also known to have severe interactions with medications, and can also cause internal bleeding if taken too much, so it should be used with caution and care.

Consider using arnica cream to reduce bruising. If you apply it once or twice every day, you will see it can be helpful for bruises you may already have. If you put the cream on early in the development of the bruise, then the bruise will heal quicker than it would usually. There will also be less coloration to the bruise itself and it won’t hurt as much anymore.

Consider taking some supplements to prevent the bruising as well. Around 1000 milligrams of vitamin C a day and 1000 milligrams of citrus bioflavonoids have been shown to help prevent bruises and help them to heal faster when you do have them. The reaction and result is not immediate, however. You usually have to take supplements for at least a few months before you can see a change in how your body reacts to bruises.

In consideration of the previous suggestion of bioflavonoids, you should also take more fruits and vegetables into your diet, as much as possible. These can help reduce bruising by giving you the vitamins that you need to prevent it from happening as much. If you are not taking supplements to prevent it, then adding fruits and vegetables to your diet can be a good alternative.

How you treat a bruise is also something you should consider. If the bruise is swelling, you should put ice on it and try to rest the affected area as much as possible. If the swelling is persistent, you can consider elevating the area by laying down. If the bruise is particularly large, consider wrapping it up, or even applying a compress to it.

There are a lot of options for to help reduce bruising. Some of them are preventative measures and some of them are just proper treatment after a bruise has occurred. If you feel that you are experiencing bruises more often than you should be, consider talking with your doctor.
