Adidas Moves 001: A Fragrance Review

In 2007, the cologne Adidas Moves 001 for men was launched by the designer Adidas. The perfumer behind this creation was unknown.

Colognes are made up of alcohol, water, and fragrance oil. Each cologne has a varying level of each component. This is what determines a cologne’s strength. This Adidas Cologne has the strength eau de toilette. The strongest is Parfum, which possesses about 15%-25% fragrance oil. The weakest is eau de cologne, which possesses about 2%-5% fragrance oil. The intermediate strengths are eau de toilette, which have 4%-15% fragrance oil, and eau de parfum, which have 10%-20% fragrance oil. Moves 001 possesses about 4% to 15% of fragrance oil.

According to the Michael Edwards Fragrance Wheel classification system, all fragrances fall into one of fourteen Families. This Adidas Fragrance belongs to the Aromatic Family. This Family is made distinct from the other fourteen Families by its more dominant use of lavender and aromatic herbs.

Each Family defined in the Fragrance Wheel is divided into four more subcategories called Fresh, Crisp, Classical, and Rich. These divisions correspond to different intensities of the dominant fragrance notes associated with each Family. Think of these intensities like the differences between Soprano (Fresh), Alto (Crisp), Tenor (Classical), and Bass (Rich). This Adidas Cologne for Men is in the Fresh subdivision of the Aromatic Family.

The life of every fragrance progresses through three stages. They are referred to as Top Notes, Middle Notes, and Base Notes. These stages are a result of the varying levels of volatility of the fragrance notes that make up a fragrance. In other words, some fragrance ingredients in Adidas Moves 001 will evaporate faster than others, therefore producing different impressions at certain stages of its life on the skin.

Top Notes are light, volatile and evaporate quickly. They are a fragrance’s initial impression and last around 10 to 20 minutes. The Top Notes for this Adidas Cologne are Mandarin Orange, Bergamot Leaf and Pear Leaf.

Middle Notes are the most dominant, and usually last for the majority of the perfume’s life. The Middle Notes for this Adidas Fragrance are Coriander, Freesia, Violet Leaf, and Cardamom.

The Base Notes for this Adidas Cologne for Men include Sandalwood, White Musk, Patchouli and Amber. They are the longest lasting qualities of a fragrance and help to slow down the evaporation of the lighter notes.
